As someone new to opinion journalism, there were some social media accounts – particularly Instagram – and people that I follow without even realizing it could be considered a part of the field. I noticed I follow a number of different accounts, some giving their opinions on food, travel, and style, while others I recently started following as I try to better immerse myself in the world of opinion journalism. Listed below you will find a mix of six Instagram accounts I follow for important societal issues as well as pleasure!
- New York Times Opinon – @nytopinion is an account that I trust when it comes to reading opinion pieces on greater world and societal issues. I have a hard time seeking out individuals whose opinions and perspectives I would trust, so as an already avid reader of The New York Times, this is an account I feel I can go to for well-written and diverse opinion stories, as well as find other journalists to follow more closely.
- The Phantom Gourmet – @phantomgourmet is a New England-based show that covers local restaurants. From high-end dining to casual counter service, from Italian food to BBQ, they give their opinion on the best places to dine at for whichever atmosphere or food you seek, all within the New England area.
- The Wall Street Journal Opinion – @wsjopinion is another source that I trust to find opinions on important information on. Opinion journalism is a sector of journalism I’m still very new to, so I’m hoping that the Wall Street Journal will be able to expose me to journalists I enjoy hearing from and follow more closely.
- Remi Bader – @remibader is someone that has grown in rising popularity over the past few years and is known best for her clothing/try-on hauls from different brands who have a wider and more inclusive range of sizes, giving her opinion on their quality and accuracy to size. I enjoy going to her for finding brands I wish to support and that don’t have a restricted consumer audience with very select size options.
- The Boston Globe Opinion – @globeopinion is another account I intend to follow more closely. As I stated previously, I am new to opinion journalism and already read The Boston Globe, so I look forward to reading more from their opinions section on local topics/issues.
- The Dis – @the.dis is a company with various different resources regarding the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, including a travel agency, blog, and podcast among their many other business ventures. With a family who loves Disney World, I enjoy listening to their podcast which features their opinions on restaurants, hotels, upcoming attractions and merchanidise, along with the reasonability and fairness of pricing.
